First Admiral (Retired) Dato Seri Pahlawan Abdul Aziz bin Haji Mohd Tamit was born on 23 September 1966. He joined the Royal Brunei Armed Forces (RBAF) in January 1984 and graduated from the Royal Britannia Naval College, United Kingdom as midshipman in 1985. In 2012 he was promoted to the rank of First Admiral.
An Executive Branch officer by trade, during his service in the Royal Brunei Navy, he held numerous staff and command appointment including that of Fleet Commander. In addition to his service to the Royal Brunei Navy, he has held a number of key staff appointments in the Ministry of Defence namely Head of Naval Project in Directorate of Operations, Head of Special Project in Deputy Minister of Defence’s Secretariat Office, Director of Force Capability Development and Director of Operations. He was appointed as the Joint Force Commander Royal Brunei Armed Forces in 2009.
On 28 February 2014, His Majesty The Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam consented to appoint him as Commander of Royal Brunei Navy and on the 13 March 2015, he was appointed as Deputy Commander of Royal Brunei Armed Forces. On 22 October 2015, with the consent of His Majesty The Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, First Admiral (Retired) Dato Seri Pahlawan Abdul Aziz was appointed as the Deputy Minister of Defence.
Throughout his career, he has undergone various courses locally and abroad. Among others, he is a graduate of the Naval War College, USA and the National Security Staff Course in Canadian Forces College in 2006. The Most Honourable Order of the Crown of Brunei (S.M.B. – 3rd Class) was awarded to First Admiral (Retired) Dato Seri Pahlawan Abdul Aziz on 15 July 2006. On the 15 July 2011, His Majesty The Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam bestowed him with the Darjah Pahlawan Negara Brunei Yang Amat Perkasa (The Most Gallant Order of Pahlawan Negara Brunei) First Class (PSPNB) with the title ‘Dato Seri Pahlawan’.
He is married to Datin Sakdiah binte Haji Mohd Noor and blessed with three boys. He loves golfing and reading.
