BOLKIAH GARRISON, Monday, 25 October 2021 – Yang Berhormat Pehin Datu Lailaraja Major General (Retired) Dato Paduka Seri Haji Awang Halbi bin Haji Mohd Yussof, Minister of Defence II, received a Farewell Call from His Excellency Christian Ramage, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of France to Brunei Darussalam today.
During the call, Yang Berhormat Minister of Defence II and His Excellency recalled the cordial defence relations since diplomatic relations were established on 8 May 1984. Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to preserving good relations and strengthening defence cooperation in the years ahead. Yang Berhormat Minister of Defence II also conveyed his warmest appreciation to His Excellency Christian Ramage for his efforts in maintaining the close friendship and defence cooperation between the two countries throughout his tenure as the French Ambassador to Brunei Darussalam since January 2018.
In 1999, Brunei Darussalam and the Republic of France signed a Memorandum of Understanding on the ‘Agreement between the Government of His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam and the Republic of France Concerning Cooperation in Defence Matters and in Defence Equipment’. Defence relations between Brunei Darussalam and the Republic of France have strengthened since then, mainly through frequent exchanges of visits, participation at exhibitions, training and courses, and the holding of joint annual meetings of the Defence Working Committee.

BOLKIAH GARISON, Isnin, 25 Oktober 2021 - Yang Berhormat Pehin Datu Lailaraja Mejar Jeneral (Bersara) Dato Paduka Seri Haji Awang Halbi bin Haji Mohd Yussof, Menteri Pertahanan Kedua telah menerima Kunjungan Perpisahan dari Tuan Yang Terutama Christian Ramage, Duta Besar Istimewa dan Mutlak Republik Perancis ke Negara Brunei Darussalam pada hari ini.
Semasa kunjungan tersebut, Yang Berhormat Menteri Pertahanan Kedua dan Tuan Yang Terutama Christian Ramage mengimbas kembali hubungan pertahanan yang mesra antara kedua-dua negara semenjak penubuhan hubungan diplomatik pada 8 Mei 1984. Kedua-dua belah pihak seterusnya mengesahkan komitmen masing-masing untuk terus mengekalkan hubungan baik dua hala tersebut dan berusaha ke arah mengukuhkan lagi kerjasama pertahanan kedua-dua negara. Yang Berhormat Menteri Pertahanan Kedua turut merakamkan setinggi-tinggi penghargaan kepada Tuan Yang Terutama Christian Ramage di atas sumbangan dan kerjasama beliau dalam bidang pertahanan sepanjang berkhidmat sebagai Duta Besar Istimewa dan Mutlak Republik Perancis ke Negara Brunei Darussalam sejak Januari 2018.
Pada tahun 1999, Negara Brunei Darussalam dan Republik Perancis menandatangani Memorandum Persefahaman ‘Agreement between the Government of His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam and the Republic of France Concerning Cooperation in Defence Matters and in Defence Equipment’. Semenjak itu, hubungan pertahanan antara Negara Brunei Darussalam dan Republik Perancis telah semakin kukuh, terutamanya melalui pertukaran-pertukaran lawatan, penyertaan pameran-pameran, latihan dan kursus, dan melalui mesyuarat tahunan Jawatankuasa Kerja Pertahanan.
