RIMBA AIR BASE, Thursday 27 April 2017 - The Royal Brunei Air Force held its Safety Day 2017 celebration at Dewan Punai, Royal Brunei Air Force yesterday. With the theme 'Road Safety For All' , the aim of this years safety day was to raise awareness and educate personnel within the airbase on the importance of Road Safety especially in light of recent road incidents within the airbase.
The Safety Day, attended by 400 officers and staff of the Royal Brunei Air Force, is part of the Royal Brunei Air Force's (RBAIrF) initiative in promoting Road Safety within the Air Base.
The event was organised by the OHS Cell, Inspectorate Unit RBAirF and involved outside agencies such as the Traffic Control and Investigation Department (Royal Brunei Police Force), Brunei National Road Safety Council, Kowira Corporation RBAF and Dowell Schlumberger Eastern Inc.
The event was split into two phases to which the first phase started with vehicle safety inspections at the front gate of Rimba Air Base. Led by the Head of Inspectorate Unit RBAirF Lt Col (U) Haszahaidi bin Hj Ahmad Daud, the inspection team comprised of members from the Royal Brunei Police Force as well as RBAirF's Regimental police and focused on ensuring the vehicles entering into the airbase was in road worthy conditions and do not breach any road traffic violations. SIKAP (Sistem Keselamatan Amalan Pemandu) booklets were also passed on to the drivers during this inspection to inform them on the demerit system for drivers that has been implemented by the Land Transport Department.
The second phase, which was the official ceremony, took place at Dewan Punai. The Ceremony started with a opening Doa from Ustaz Said bin… The guest of Honor for the event,BRIGADIER JENERAL (U) DATO SERI PAHLAWAN SHAHRIL ANWAR BIN HAJI MA'AWIAH opened the event with a safety speech highlighting the importance of road safety and reiterating the commitment of the RBAirF in educating and raising awareness on Road Safety to its personell. The event proceeded with a Health and Safety Brief by the Chairman of the Event, Maj (U) Muhammad Zabri bin Abdul Rahman, who at the end of the presentation called upon a former member of the RBAirF Lt(Rtd) Fakhrul Razi bin Hj Abdullah to share his experiences having gone through a serious road accident during his time in the RBAirF. Pg Khairul Yusra bin Pg Hj Md Yusof of the Brunei National Road Safety Council then shared with the audience statistics on road accidents and common causes on the roads of Brunei Darussalam.
After the presentation of the token of appreciation to all the outside agencies involved, the guest Of Honor was given a tour of the safety booths that were set up by the various external agencies for the day. The tour ended with the Guest of honor experiencing the famed seat belt convincer, which is a safety awareness equipment that shows the force of impact in low speed collisions.
The Royal Brunei Air Force Safety Day has been an initiative of the Inspectorate Unit, RBAirF through the years with the event being conducted on an annual basis in order to highlight and tackle current health and safety issues within the RBAirF.
