As someone who hasn’t eaten sugar in over 2 years, I can say it’s possible. But because research has shown that sugar is a more addictive substance than cocaine or heroin, we’re probably not hard-wired to think so. It takes completely eliminating it from your system for a long period of time, and treating yourself as an addict who cannot have it for any reason or in any quantity.

Regarding sex…I’m not so sure I believe in the concept of sex addiction, since I don’t think the act itself is harmful (in the way that sugar, alcohol, or drugs, can corrode your body). I wouldn’t die if I had sex five times a day (although I might think I’d died and gone to heaven.) So it usually comes down to whether the context is permissible, whether it’s not being able to give up sex with someone besides your primary designated partner, or the object is not permissible (minors, those in a subordinate position and the inability to truly consent, animals, dead people, etc.)
