RBAIRF PERSONNEL GET FEEL OF UK RAF AIRBUS ATLAS C1

RIMBA BASE, Tuesday 18 July 2017 - A UK Royal Air Force (RAF) Airbus Atlas C1 recently made a routine visit to the Royal Brunei Air Force (RBAirF) Base at Rimba.

According to a press statement from the British High Commission in Brunei Darussalam, the crew from 70 Sqn RAF were delighted to have the opportunity to show personnel from 15 and 55 Sqn RBAirF around their new aircraft.

The A400M that visited was the latest Atlas to join the RAF fleet and had only flown 70 hours in total.

Both aircrew and engineers learnt how the aircraft is able to detect faults and try to resolve them, even before alerting the crew to the existence of the fault. The cockpit is similar to that of many other airbus aircraft, being loosely based on the A380.

The aircraft is controlled by fly-by-light, a development of fly-by-wire using fibre-optic cables, and has a heads up display for essential information, which increases the pilot’s situational awareness and allows for an increase in approach stability and landing accuracy.
