Bruneian Deputy Minister of Defence Visits RSS STEADFAST

3-6front.jpgMuara – Tuesday 03rd June 2008 - The Bruneian Deputy Minister of Defence, Yang Berhormat Pehin Datu Singamanteri Colonel (Rtd) Dato Seri Paduka Awang Haji Mohd Yasmin bin Haji Umar, visited RSS STEADFAST in Brunei this morning. He was accompanied by Commander of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces Yang Dimuliakan Pehin Datu Lailaraja Major General Dato Paduka Seri Haji Awang Halbi bin Haji Mohd Yussof and Commander of the Royal Brunei Navy Colonel (L) Abdul Halim Haji Mohd Yussof. The visit to RSS Steadfast reflects the close defence ties between the two countries. It was hosted by Chief of Navy Rear Admiral Chew Men Leong who is currently on his introductory visit to Brunei. 

RSS STEADFAST is in Brunei to conduct Ex PELICAN with the Royal Brunei Navy (RBN) from 3 to 6 Jun 08. The 29th in a series of bilateral exercises between the two navies, this year's Ex PELICAN provides opportunities for the RSN and the RBN to interact at the professional level, as well as to enhance co-operation and mutual understanding.

Singapore's formidable class frigate, a stealth capable RSS Steadfast, one of the most advanced surface combatants in South East Asia arrived at the Muara Port around noon yesterday.

The Singapore military's proud possession is here as part of joint naval exercise between Royal Brunei Navy' and the Republic of Singapore Navy to be launched today.

Led by its Commanding Officer, Lieutenant Colonel Seah Poh Yean, the Singapore's third stealth frigate, with a length of 110m, is a second Singapore -made frigate.

It has the most advanced anti-air, anti-surface, anti-submarine warfare capabilities. According to Singapore Defence Ministry it is a highly versatile warship that possesses stealth capabilities.

It is designed to carry a Sikorsky S-70B Naval Helicopter capable of complementing the ship in Anti-surface and Anti-submarine warfare.

By leveraging on a high level of automation and enhanced work processes, the stealth combatant is operated by a lean crew of 71 and an air detachment of 15 personnel.

Equipped with state-of-the-art combat capabilities that allow the performance of a wide spectrum of missions, besides dealing with various threats in all dimensions of naval warfare - surface, air and underwater.

The command and control of the various sensor and weapon systems onboard each frigate is achieved via an indigenously developed Combat Management System (CMS).

Military ties between Brunei and Singapore have been strengthened by joint-exercises of this type.

Recently, the two smallest countries in South East Asia engaged in the 6th Exercise Maju Bersama, a bilateral exercise between the Royal Brunei Land Forces and the Singapore Army. It aims to foster good relations between the two armies and enhance the skills as well as professionalism of the soldiers.
