– The New Air Movement Centre was officially handed-over to Royal
Brunei Air Force. Mock key was presented first from the Main Contractor
LSL Sdn Bhd to Director of Development and Work Services. Consequently,
from Director of DDWS to Permanent Secretary (Defence Policy and
Development), Col (Rtd) Pg Dato Paduka Haji Azmansham bin Pg Haji
Mohamad and finally to the Commander of The Royal Brunei Air
Force, Brigadier General (U) Haji Wardi bin Haji Abdul Latip.
Also present to witness the ceremony
were Yang Dimuliakan Pehin Datu Pekerma Jaya Brigadier General Dato Seri
Pahlawan Mohd Tawih bin Abdullah, Deputy Commander of Royal Brunei
Armed Forces, Haji Hamzah bin Haji Sulaiman, Deputy Permanent Secretary
(Defence Policy and Development), Senior Officers from Royal Customs
& Excise Department, Immigration and National Registration
Department, Royal Brunei Air Force.
The Permanent Secretary was later led
through a tour of the Air Movement Centre to see the facilities provided
such as Arrival / Departure Hall, Viewing Gallery, Radio Room, Baggage
Claim, Planning Room and Lounges.
The Consultants engaged for this project
are Arkitek KHA as the Architect, Hamidon and Associates as the M&E
Engineering Consultant, Seri Bumi Consultant as the Civil/Structural
Engineering Consultants and Z-Arif Consultant as the Quantity Surveyor.
The project was valued at approximately
$3.9 million. Construction commenced on 29 April 2013 with a 5 months
construction period and practically completed on 20th September 2013.
The
Air Movement Centre is to facilitate the reception and arrival of RBAF
and foreign forces for deployments and exercises, and also will be used
for other officials and visitors using non-commercial flights.
