BRUNEI DARUSSALAM AND REPUBLIC OF KOREA SIGN MOU ON DEFENCE COOPERATION DURING THE SEVENTH SEOUL DEFENSE DIALOGUE 2018

SEOUL, REPUBLIC OF KOREA, Thursday, 13 September 2018 – Brunei Darussalam and Republic of Korea affirmed its longstanding defence relations with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on Defence Cooperation held today at Seoul, Republic of Korea. Captain (Retired) Dato Paduka Abd Rahman bin BMDP Haji Bakar, RBN, Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Defence Brunei Darussalam and His Excellency Suh Choo-Suk, Vice Minister of National Defense of the Republic of Korea represented their respective ministries during the signing ceremony. 

Present at the ceremony were Muhammad Shahrul Nizzam bin Umar, Director of the Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Institute of Defence and Strategic Studies (SHHBIDSS), Nurfauzanna Abu Bakar, Chargé d’Affaires, Embassy of Brunei Darussalam to the Republic of Korea and other defence officials.

The signing ceremony of the MOU was held on the sidelines of the seventh Seoul Defense Dialogue 2018, a two-day dialogue organised by the Ministry of National Defense of the Republic of Korea together with the 2nd ROK-ASEAN Defense Vice-Ministerial Talks. The Dialogue was officiated by His Excellency Song Young-Moo, Minister of National Defense, Republic of Korea. The 2nd ROK-ASEAN Defense Vice-Ministerial Talks is aimed to promote defence exchanges and cooperation at the Vice-Ministerial level from ROK and ASEAN member states. 

The Permanent Secretary also made separate calls on His Excellency Suh Choo-Suk, the Vice Minister of National Defense of the Republic of Korea prior to the signing of the MOU and with the Rt Hon. Earl Howe Frederick Curzon, the Minister of State for Defence United Kingdom to discuss on matters in strengthening defence cooperation between the two sides.

The Seoul Defense Dialogue 2018 saw the highest number of countries participating since its inception in 2012.






NEGARA BRUNEI DARUSSALAM DAN REPUBLIK KOREA MENANDATANGANI MEMORANDUM PERSEFAHAMAN SEMASA SEOUL DEFENSE DIALOGUE 2018 YANG KE TUJUH

SEOUL, REPUBLIK KOREA, Khamis, 13 September 2018 – Negara Brunei Darussalam dan Republik Korea mengesahkan hubungan pertahanan di antara kedua-dua negara yang lama terjalin dengan menandatangani Memorandum Persefahaman (MOU) dalam Kerjasama Pertahanan pada hari ini di Seoul, Republik Korea. Kepten (Bersara) Dato Paduka Abd Rahman bin BMDP Haji Bakar, TLDB, Setiausaha Tetap Kementerian Pertahanan Negara Brunei Darussalam dan Tuan Yang Terutama Suh Choo-Suk, Naib Menteri Pertahanan Negara Republik Korea telah mewakili Kementerian masing-masing semasa upcara penandatangan itu. 

Turut hadir di upacara tersebut ialah Haji Muhammad Shahrul Nizzam bin Umar, Pengarah Institut Pengajian Pertahanan dan Strategik Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah, Nurfauzanna Abu Bakar, Kuasausaha Sementara Kedutaan Besar Negara Brunei Darussalam di Republik Korea dan pegawai-pegawai pertahanan lain.

Upacara penandatangan Memorandum Persefahaman itu berlangsung di samping Seoul Defense Dialogue 2018 yang dikendalikan selama dua hari anjuran Kementerian Pertahanan Negara Republik Korea bersama dengan ROK-ASEAN Vice-Ministerial Talks yang kedua yang telah diadakan di Seoul, Republik Korea (ROK). Dialog tersebut dirasmikan oleh Tuan Yang Terutama Song Young-Moo, Menteri Pertahanan Negara Republik Korea. ROK-ASEAN Vice-Ministerial Talks yang kedua itu bertujuan untuk menggalakkan pertukaran dan kerjasama pertahanan yang bersesuaian pada peringkat Vice-Minister antara ROK dan negara-negara ASEAN. 

Setiausaha Tetap juga mengadakan kunjungan muhibah kepada Tuan Yang Terutama Suh Choo-Suk, Naib Menteri Pertahanan Negara Republik Korea sebelum penandatanganan MOU tersebut dan seterusnya dengan The Rt Hon. Earl Howe Frederick Curzon, Minister of State for Defence United Kingdom bagi membincangkan perkara-perkara dalam mempertingkatkan lagi kerjasama pertahanan antara kedua-dua pihak.

Pada tahun ini, Seoul Defense Dialogue tersebut mendatangkan penyertaan yang tertinggi semenjak pertubuhan dialog itu pada tahun 2012.
