HIS MAJESTY THE SULTAN AND YANG DI-PERTUAN OF BRUNEI DARUSSALAM RECEIVES IN AUDIENCE THE STATE COUNCILOR AND MINISTER OF NATIONAL DEFENSE OF THE PEOPLE’S REPUBLIC OF CHINA

ISTANA NURUL IMAN, Wednesday, 9 September 2020 -  His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu'izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar 'Ali Saifuddien Sa'adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam today received in audience His Excellency General Wei Fenghe, State Councilor and Minister of National Defense of the People’s Republic of China. 

Accompanying General Wei Fenghe were Her Excellency Yu Hong, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People’s Republic of China to Brunei Darussalam; Lieutenant General (Air Force) Jia Zhigang, Deputy Commander of the Southern Theater Command; Major General Song Yanchao, Deputy Chief of the Office for International Military Cooperation of Central Military Commission (OIMC); Major General Liu Yantong, Director General of Research Bureau of General Office of Central Military Commission; and Colonel Jiang Bin, Staff of Asian Affairs Bureau, OIMC.

Also present were Yang Berhormat Pehin Datu Lailaraja Major General (Retired) Dato Paduka Seri Haji Awang Halbi bin Haji Mohd. Yussof, Second Minister of Defence; Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Erywan bin Pehin Datu Pekerma Jaya Haji Mohd. Yusof, Second Minister of Foreign Affairs; and Major General (U) Dato Seri Pahlawan Haji Hamzah bin Haji Sahat, Commander of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces (RBAF).

Defence and military cooperation between Brunei Darussalam and the People’s Republic of China were strengthened through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding on Military Exchanges on 12 September 2003, and were further bolstered through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding on Strengthening Defence Cooperation on 13 September 2017, during the State Visit of His Majesty Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam to the People’s Republic of China.

Both sides enjoy a warm and friendly defence relationship, in which Brunei Darussalam recently received a donation of medical supplies from the People’s Republic of China in effort to combat the COVID-19 pandemic in May 2020. The bilateral defence relationship is also underpinned by extensive defence and military interactions such as exchange of visits, port visits, trainings and courses; and in cooperation with one another at a multilateral level through the ASEAN Defence Ministers’ Meeting-Plus (ADMM-Plus). 



KEBAWAH DYMM PADUKA SERI BAGINDA SULTAN DAN YANG DI-PERTUAN NEGARA BRUNEI DARUSSALAM BERKENAN MENERIMA MENGADAP  AHLI MAJLIS NEGARA DAN MENTERI PERTAHANAN REPUBLIK RAKYAT CHINA

ISTANA NURUL IMAN, Rabu, 9 September 2020 - Kebawah Duli Yang Maha Mulia Paduka Seri Baginda Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu'izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar 'Ali Saifuddien Sa'adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan dan Yang Di-Pertuan Negara Brunei Darussalam, hari ini berkenan menerima mengadap Tuan Yang Terutama Jeneral Wei Fenghe, Ahli Majlis Negara dan Menteri Pertahanan Republik Rakyat China.

Menyertai bersama Tuan Yang Terutama Jeneral Wei Fenghe ialah Puan Yang Terutama Yu Hong, Duta Besar Istimewa dan Mutlak Republik Rakyat China di Negara Brunei Darussalam; Leftenan Jeneral (Air Force) Jia Zhigang, Deputy Commander of the Southern Theater Command; Mejar Jeneral Song Yanchao, Deputy Chief of the Office for International Military Cooperation of Central Military Commission (OIMC); Mejar Jeneral Liu Yantong, Director General of Research Bureau of General Office of Central Military Commission; dan Kolonel Jiang Bin, Staff of Asian Affairs Bureau, OIMC.

Turut hadir ialah Yang Berhormat Pehin Datu Lailaraja Mejar Jeneral (Bersara) Dato Paduka Seri Haji Awang Halbi bin Haji Mohd Yussof, Menteri Pertahanan Kedua; Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Erywan bin Pehin Datu Pekerma Jaya Haji Mohd. Yusof, Menteri Hal Ehwal Luar Negeri Kedua; dan Mejar Jeneral (U) Dato Seri Pahlawan Haji Hamzah bin Haji Sahat, Pemerintah Angkatan Bersenjata Diraja Brunei (ABDB).

Kerjasama pertahanan dan ketenteraan di antara Negara Brunei Darussalam dan Republik Rakyat China telah dimeteraikan melalui penandatanganan Memorandum Persefahaman Mengenai Pertukaran Ketenteraan (Military Exchanges) pada 12 September 2003, dan diperkukuhkan lagi melalui penandatanganan Memorandum Persefahaman Mengenai Memperkukuh Kerjasama Pertahanan pada 13 September 2017 sewaktu keberangkatan Negara Kebawah Duli Yang Maha Mulia Paduka Seri Baginda Sultan dan Yang Di-Pertuan Negara Brunei Darussalam ke Republik Rakyat China.

Kedua belah pihak juga mempunyai hubungan pertahanan yang mesra, di mana Negara Brunei Darussalam baru-baru ini telah menerima dana sumbangan berbentuk peralatan perubatan dari Republik Rakyat China dalam usaha untuk memerangi wabak COVID-19 pada bulan Mei 2020. Hubungan pertahanan dua hala ini juga merangkumi pelbagai interaksi termasuk pertukaran lawatan, lawatan muhibah kapal tentera, latihan dan kursus; serta saling bekerjasama di peringkat pelbagai hala di bawah rangka kerja ASEAN Defence Ministers’ Meeting-Plus (ADMM-Plus).
