Lieutenant Colonel Pengiran Hairul Nizam was appointed as Chief Information Officer of Defence Information Technology Unit (DITU), Ministry of Defence since December 2022. He graduated from Staffordshire University, United Kingdom (UK) with a Higher National Diploma (HND) in Business Information Technology in 2003, Bachelor of Science in Information System in 2005 and Master of Science (MSc) in Research Computing Science in 2007.
In August 2008, marked the beginning of his Military Career whereby he was enlisted in the Royal Brunei Armed Forces (RBAF) as a potential Officer Cadet and underwent basic recruit training at Training Institute RBAF (TI RBAF) as a precursor to Officer Cadet School (OCS) training. Following that year, the first ever OCS was formalized in 2009 at Sungai Akar, Gurkha Reserve Unit (GRU) and he was selected as one of the first intake of OCS RBAF.
He has assumed various appointments throughout his career in RBAF. In 2010, he was a Platoon Commander of Delta Company, First Battalion, RBAF holding a Lieutenant rank. In 2011, he was transferred to Defence Information Technology Unit (DITU) and he was given the responsibility to be a part of a project between DITU and CSTRAD which was the development of National Modelling Simulation Centre (NMSC). He was promoted to Captain rank the following year. In 2016, he was appointed as Staff Officer Grade 2 (SO2) G6 Information System at Royal Brunei Land Force Headquarters (RBLF HQ) and was later promoted to Major rank in 2017. During his Land Force tour, he has contributed to both the Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) project and the provision of UAV training for RBLF personnel.
Additionally, providing solutions with his dedicated team in the field in the field of media and information system solutions during the COVID-19 pandemic. In retrospect, he had won the RBAF Essay Writing Competition in 2009 and designed the RBAF 60th Anniversary logo in 2021.
Throughout his career, Lieutenant Colonel Pengiran Hairul Nizam had attended trainings both locally and abroad. Among the training he attended was RBAF C4ISR Training Simulation and Aerial Intelligence Surveillance & Reconnaissance in 2014.
He is married to Aliyah Willis and is blessed with a son. He enjoys researching on latest technologies and traveling during his free time.

HISTORY
Defence Information Technology Unit (DITU), also known as Unit Teknologi Maklumat Pertahanan (UTMP) was officially launched on 9 July 2002 by Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Amar Pahlawan Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Zakaria bin Datu Mahawangsa Haji Sulaiman. It was inaugurated in Block 232 Bolkiah Camp.
DITU provides services and facilities in terms of providing computer equipments, repairing and checking of computers and providing networks that could be in the form of Intranet and Internet networks.
