Brigadier General (Retired) Dato Seri Pahlawan Haji Abdul Razak bin Haji Abd. Kadir was born on 21 March 1972. He began his career when he enlisted in the Royal Brunei Armed Forces on 21 September 1989 and appointed as Officer Cadet in 1994. He underwent Officer Cadet Training at the Royal Military College (RMC), Sungai Besi, Kuala Lumpur Malaysia in 1994 to 1995 and soon after was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant.
He has held various appointments throughout his service in the Royal Brunei Armed Forces such as Platoon Commander, Armoured Recce Troop Leader, Adjutant, Squadron Second-in-Command, Company Commander, Armoured Recce Squadron Commander, Battalion Second-in-Command and Staff Officer Grade One at Ministry of Defence. He also served a tour of duty as a member of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces International Monitoring Team (IMT) at Cotabato City, Mindanao, the Republic of the Philippines from 2005 to 2006.
In 2010, he completed his Command and Staff Course at the Command and Staff College Quetta, Islamic Republic of Pakistan and graduated with a master’s degree from the University of Balochistan, Islamic Republic of Pakistan. He was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel in 2012 and later was appointed as Aide-de-Camp to His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu'izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar 'Ali Saifuddien Sa'adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam in 2013 until 2016. In September 2016, he attended the National Defence College of the Philippines and graduated with a master’s degree in National Security Administration (MNSA). He took responsibility of the Directorship at the Defence’s Minister’s Office and Directorate of Strategic Planning on 01 January 2018 and was then promoted the rank of Colonel on 13 July 2018.
By the consent of His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, he was promoted to Brigadier General on 24 July 2020 and took command as Joint Force Commander of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces on 28 August 2020. He was then appointed as Commander of the Royal Brunei Land Force on 01 March 2022. On 07 June 2022, he was appointed as Deputy Minister of Defence.
Brigadier General (Retired) Dato Seri Pahlawan Haji Abdul Razak was conferred The Most Blessed Order of Setia Negara Brunei (P.S.B.) in 2002 and Pingat Jasa Kebaktian (P.J.K.) in 2008 by His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam. On 15 July 2021, he was bestowed The Most Gallant Order of Pahlawan Negara Brunei, First Class (P.S.P.N.B.) which carries the title Dato Seri Pahlawan during His Majesty’s 75th Birthday celebration.
On 01 September 2022, Brigadier General (Retired) Dato Seri Pahlawan Haji Abdul Razak was conferred Singapore's prestigious military award, the Pingat Jasa Gemilang (Tentera) or Meritorious Service Medal (Military) [MSM(M)], by President Halimah Yacob in recognition of his outstanding contributions to enhancing the excellent relations between the Royal Brunei Land Forces and the Singapore Army during his tenure as Commander of Royal Brunei Land Force.
Brigadier General (Retired) Dato Seri Pahlawan Haji Abdul Razak is married to Datin Hajah Maimunah binti Haji Bakar and is blessed with a son and two daughters. He enjoys playing golf and travelling.
