BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, Wednesday, 2 June 2021 - The 13th ASEAN Defence Ministers’ Meeting-Plus (ADMM-Plus) Experts’ Working Group on Military Medicine (EWG on MM) took place virtually today for a two-day meeting at the International Convention Centre (ICC), Jalan Berakas.
The meeting, from 2 to 3 June 2021, is the second meeting conducted by Brunei Darussalam and Australia as co-chairs of the 4th Experts’ Working Group Cycle for 2021-2024. Representing Brunei Darussalam at the meeting was Colonel (Dr) Hj Awang Mohd Hafizul bin Haji Awang Mohd Hassan, Chief Medical Officer of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces (RBAF) as Co-Chair of EWG on MM and Commodore Nicole Curtis, Director General of Operational Health of Australian Defence Force and Co-Chair of EWG on MM for Australia. Representatives from the military medicine community of ADMM-Plus members as well ASEAN Secretariat and ASEAN Centre for Military Medicine (ACMM), were also present during the meeting.
The meeting elaborated further on the “Project-based Community Medical Deployment (PCMD)” initiative put forward by Brunei Darussalam, which proposes a deployment in 2023 with the sole objective of enhancing the existing health provisions in an ASEAN Member State. During this meeting, several presentations from invited speakers elaborated on specific issues raised related to the proposed medical deployments, which includes Force Health Protection, legal aspects related to medical deployments, as well as roles of ACMM in medical deployments. The invited speakers also highlighted health security-related matters relevant to the region.
This second meeting of a series of EWG on MM meetings furthermore streamlines interoperability and coordination among the military medical services of the 18 ADMM-Plus countries before PCMD execution in 2023, as well as strengthen cooperation as envisaged by the ADMM-Plus leaders.

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, Rabu, 2 Jun 2021 - Mesyuarat Kumpulan Kerja Pakar Perubatan Tentera ADMM-Plus ke-13 (ADMM-Plus Experts Working Group on Military Medicine (EWG on MM)) sedang berlangsung selama dua hari bermula hari ini di Pusat Persidangan Antarabangsa (ICC), Jalan Berakas secara dalam talian.
Mesyuarat tersebut dijadualkan untuk berlangsung dari 2 hingga 3 Jun 2021 di bawah Pengerusi Bersama Negara Brunei Darussalam dan Australia bagi kitaran EWG on MM kali ke-4 bagi tahun 2021-2024. Mewakili Negara Brunei Darussalam di mesyuarat tersebut ialah Kolonel (Dr.) Hj Awang Mohd. Hafizul bin Haji Awang Mohd Hassan, Ketua Pegawai Perubatan Angkatan Bersenjata Diraja Brunei (ABDB) selaku Pengerusi Bersama EWG on MM Brunei Darussalam dan Commodore Nicole Curtis, Australian Defence Force Director General of Operational Health selaku pengerusi bersama ADMM-Plus of EWG on MM dari Australia. Turut hadir di mesyuarat tersebut ialah wakil-wakil daripada komuniti perubatan tentera ADMM-Plus, Sekretariat ASEAN dan ASEAN Centre for Military Medicine (ACMM).
Mesyuarat ini telah membincangkan inisiatif
Project-based Community Medical Deployment (PCMD) yang telah dikemukakan oleh Brunei Darussalam yang mana telah menyusulkan penempatan pada tahun 2023 yang berhasrat untuk meningkatkan tahap kesihatan di salah satu negara ASEAN. Semasa mesyuarat tersebut, beberapa taklimat telah dikongsikan oleh penceramah-penceramah undangan berkaitan dengan Perlindungan Kesihatan Pasukan Tentera (Force Health Protection), aspek-aspek perundangan atur gerak kemanusiaan dan penglibatan ACMM dalam projek atur gerak itu nanti. Penceramah-penceramah undangan tersebut juga turut mengetengahkan isu-isu sekuriti kesihatan yang berkaitan di rantau ini.
Mesyuarat ini ialah mesyuarat kedua daripada empat siri yang mengemaskan lagi usaha sama, interoperability dan penyelarasan di kalangan perkhidmatan Perubatan Tentera bagi kesemua 18 negara ADMM-Plus sebelum perlaksanaan PCMD pada tahun 2023 sepertimana yang dihasratkan oleh ketua-ketua ADMM-Plus.
