INDO PACIFIC ENDEAVOUR 2021 (IPE 21)

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, Tuesday, 14 September 2021– The Indo Pacific Endeavour 2021 (IPE21) is Australia’s flagship annual defence led international engagement which aims to strengthen Australia’s Whole of Government commitment and partnership in the Indo Pacific region. The IPE21 Task Group which consist of three Royal Australian Navy (RAN) Vessels – Landing Helicopter Dock HMAS Canberra, Frigate HMAS ANZAC and an Auxiliary Oiler Replenishment HMAS Sirius, set sail from Australia on the 26th August 2021 and will end its deployment on the 08th November 2021. Nine countries within the Asia Pacific Region have been and will be visited by this Task Group. The Brunei leg will be done between 14 – 17 September 2021.

Despite the challenges of the global COVID-19 pandemic, this effort has not deterred either country from proceeding with IPE21 as planned. Exercise planners from both countries have designed programs to ensure that the exercise achieves the desired outcomes by utilizing Video Tele Conference (VTC) and according to the regulations and guidelines set by the Ministry of Health (MOH).

There are several activities planned for Subject Matter Expert Exchange (SMEE), including Religious Engagement, Legal Engagement, Unmanned Aircraft System (UAS) Exchange, Clearance Diver Exchange, Special Ops Exchange, Riverine/Small Boats Exchange, and Law of the Sea Workshops. The exercise will also include Passage Exercise (PASSEX) in Brunei waters to maintain and expand interoperability between the RAN and the Royal Brunei Navy (RBN).

To further enhance the bilateral outcomes of IPE21, senior officials from the Royal Brunei Armed Force (RBAF) and the Australian Defence Force (ADF) also held virtual courtesy calls, including General Angus Campbell, Chief of Defence Force, ADF with Major General (U) Dato Seri Pahlawan Haji Hamzah bin Haji Sahat, Commander RBAF on 6th September, followed by a call between Rear Admiral Christopher Smith, RAN, Deputy Chief of Navy (representing Chief of Navy), and First Admiral Dato Seri Pahlawan Spry bin Haji Serudi @ Seruji, Commander RBN  as well as a call  between Commodore Mal Wise, Commander IPE21 and Colonel Saifulrizal bin Abdul Latif, Chief of Staff Joint Force Headquarter (COS JFHQ), both held on
14 September. 

IPE will be an annual engagement designed to enhance interoperability, professionalism, and proficiency of both armed forces in addressing current and future threats of mutual concern in the region. This engagement will continue to be conducted annually.






INDO PACIFIC ENDEAVOR 2021 (IPE 21)

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, Selasa, 14 September 2021 - Indo Pacific Endeavour 2021 (IPE21) adalah latihan ketenteraan tahunan utama bagi negara Australia dalam menjalin perhubungan pertahanan antarabangsa bertujuan untuk memperkuat komitmen dan kerjasama Kerajaan Australia di wilayah Indo Pasifik. Task Group IPE21 terdiri daripada tiga Kapal Tentera Laut Diraja Australia (TLDA) - Landing Helicopter Dock HMAS Canberra, Frigate HMAS ANZAC dan Auxiliary Oiler Replenishment HMAS Sirius, yang mana telah mula berlayar dari Australia pada 26 Ogos 2021 dan dijangka akan berakhir pada 08 November 2021. Sembilan buah negara di dalam Wilayah Asia Pasifik telah dan akan dikunjungi oleh Kumpulan Tugas ini. Manakala kunjungan dan latihan bersama di Negara Brunei Darussalam (NBD) akan berlangsung diantara 14 - 17 September 2021.

Walaupun menghadapi cabaran pandemik global COVID-19, ianya tidak mengendurkan usaha kedua-dua negara  untuk menjayakan IPE21 seperti yang direncanakan. Program latihan dari kedua-dua negara telah diubahsuai untuk memastikan latihan tersebut dapat mencapai hasil yang dihasratkan dengan bantuan Video Tele Conference (VTC) dalam mematuhi peraturan dan garispandu yang diberikan oleh Kementerian Kesihatan (KK).

Beberapa aktiviti yang telah dirancang untuk Subject Matter Expert Exchange (SMEE) seperti Sesi Keagamaan, Sesi Perundangan, Unmanned Aircraft System (UAS) Exchange, Clearance Diver Exchange, Pertukaran Operasi Khas, Riverine/Small Boats Exchange dan Bengkel Perundangan Laut. Latihan yang dijalankan juga akan merangkumi Passage Exercise (PASSEX) di perairan Brunei untuk mengekalkan dan mengembangkan interoperabiliti diantara TLDA dan Tentera Laut Diraja Brunei (TLDB).

Bagi meningkatkan hasil latihan dua hala IPE21, pegawai-pegawai kanan dari Angkatan Bersenjata Diraja Brunei (ABDB) dan Angkatan Pertahanan Australia (ADF) juga mengadakan kunjungan hormat secara dalam talian termasuk General Angus Campbell, Chief of Defence Force, ADF bersama Mejar Jeneral (U) Dato Seri Pahlawan Haji Hamzah bin Haji Sahat Pemerintah ABDB pada 6 September; Rear Admiral Christopher Smith, RAN, Deputy Chief of Navy, Wakil Panglima Tentera Laut (mewakili Panglima Tentera Laut) dengan  Laksamana Pertama Dato Seri Pahlawan Spry bin Haji Serudi @ Seruji, Pemerintah TLDB serta Commodore Mal Wise, Commander IPE21 dan Kolonel Saifulrizal bin Abdul Latif, Ketua Staf Markas Angkatan Bersama ABDB (KS MAB ABDB), kedua-duanya diadakan pada
14 September.

IPE ini akan menjadi latihan tahunan yang dirancang untuk meningkatkan interoperabilitas, profesionalisme, dan kemampuan kedua-dua angkatan bersenjata dalam menangani ancaman-ancaman semasa dan di masa hadapan di rantau ini. Penglibatan ini akan terus dijalankan pada setiap tahun.
