WARRANT OFFICER 1 ROZAIN BIN HAJI PUNGUT
ARMED FORCES SERGEANT MAJOR
First Warrant 0fficer Rozain bin Haji Pungut was born on 24th September 1977. He was enlisted in the Royal Brunei Armed Forces on 7th April 1995 for six months of initial training. On 28th November 1995, he was assigned as a Rifleman to his first unit in C Company, First Battalion, Land Forces RBAF.
Throughout his career, First Warrant Officer Rozain attended various courses such as 2IC Section Commander course on 29th December 1997 leading to his promotion to Lance Corporal. In the following year, he also attended Drill Instructor Course in February 1999, Section Commander Course in 15th June 1998 as well as Weapon Coaching and Instructor Course in 25th April 2001. He was later promoted to Corporal on 20th June 2003.
First Warrant Officer Rozain also attended Platoon Sergeant Course and began his career as Platoon Sergeant in C Company, First Battalion, Land Force RBAF before being promoted to Sergeant on 14th April 2007. On 3rd December 2007, he attended Range Management Course at the Small Arms Branch, School of Infantry, Training Institute RBAF and was appointed as an Instructor. Subsequently, he served as an Instructor at the Officer Cadet School, Defence Academy RBAF in 2008 and promoted to Staff Sergeant on 26th November 2009.
In 2012, First Warrant Officer Rozain was selected as a contingent member to serve in the Malaysian Battalion as part of the United Nation Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) peacekeeping mission as a Troop Sergeant. He was later promoted to Warrant Officer on 1st July 2014 and was appointed as Intake Senior Wing Sergeant Major. In 14 February 2018, he became the School Sergeant Major at the Officer Cadet School for 3 years and was later appointed as Academy Sergeant Major at the Defence Academy RBAF. In October 2022, he was appointed as Regiment Sergeant Major at Royal Guards Regiment, Royal Brunei Land Force.
On 6th May 2023, First Warrant Officer Rozain became the first Regiment Sergeant Major to participate in the prestigious Coronation Ceremony of King Charles III, held at Buckingham Palace, London. He joined one Officer and eight Other Ranks from the Royal Brunei Armed Forces, representing the nation alongside representatives from 32 countries. On 5th December 2024, he was appointed Armed Forces Sergeant Major.
First Warrant Officer Rozain was awarded General Service Medal (GSM) in 1996, RBAF Long Service Medal in 2011, Pingat Indah Kerja Baik (PIKB) in 2012, Pahlawan Periwara (PP) in 2014 and The Most Blessed Order of Setia Negara Brunei (PSB) in 2019.
He is married and blessed with five children. He enjoys playing golf and sports such as hiking and badminton.
