MANILA, THE REPUBLIC OF THE PHILIPPINES, Wednesday, 1 April 2026 – The first ASEAN Defence Senior Officials' Meeting Working Group (ADSOM WG) and ASEAN Defence Senior Officials' Meeting-Plus Working Group (ADSOM-Plus WG) meetings under the Republic of the Philippines' ASEAN 2026 Chairmanship were held from 30 March to 1 April 2026.
With the theme of “Navigating Our Future, Together", the meetings were chaired by Ms. Marita I. Yoro, Assistant Secretary for International Affairs, Department of National Defense, the Republic of the Philippines. Representing the Ministry of Defence of Brunei Darussalam was Yang Mulia Hajah Siti Maszaiwati binti Haji Zaini, Director of Defence Policy, in her capacity as the ADSOM WG and ADSOM-Plus WG Leader for Brunei Darussalam.
During the ADSOM WG meeting, the agendas discussed included the progress of ASEAN defence cooperation initiatives such as the ASEAN Direct Communications Infrastructure. The meeting also deliberated on the proposal of new ADMM initiatives as well as on the draft Joint Declaration and Joint Statement by the ADMM and draft Joint Statement by the ADMM-Plus.
During the ADSOM-Plus WG meeting, among the agendas discussed covered the workplan for the seven areas of cooperation under the ADMM-Plus Experts' Working Group (EWGs) namely Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR); Maritime Security (MS); Counter-Terrorism (CT); Peacekeeping Operations (PKO); Military Medicine (MM); Humanitarian Mine Action (HMA); and Cyber Security (CS). In this regard, the Brunei Darussalam's delegation presented an update on the EWG on PKO activities in view of that Brunei Darussalam and People's Republic of China serving as co-chairs of the ADMM-Plus EWG on PKO for the 2024-2027 cycle.
Both meetings marked the first in a series of upcoming defence engagements to be held throughout the year under the Republic of the Philippines' ASEAN 2026 Chairmanship including the ASEAN Defence Ministers Meeting (ADMM) Retreat in May 2026 as well as the 20th ADMM and the 13th ADMM-Plus in October 2026.
On the sidelines of the meetings, the Brunei Darussalam delegation also conducted several bilateral meetings including with the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Australia.


MESYUARAT ADSOM WORKING GROUP DAN MESYUARAT ADSOM-PLUS WORKING GROUP DIADAKAN DI REPUBLIK FILIPINA
MANILA, REPUBLIK FILIPINA, Rabu, 01 April 2026 – Mesyuarat pertama Kumpulan Kerja Pegawai-Pegawai Kanan Pertahanan ASEAN (ADSOM WG) dan Mesyuarat Kumpulan Kerja Pegawai-Pegawai Kanan Pertahanan ASEAN-Plus (ADSOM-Plus WG) yang di pengerusikan oleh Republik Filipina telah diadakan dari 30 Mac hingga 01 April 2026.
Dengan tema “Navigating Our Future, Together", mesyuarat-mesyuarat tersebut telah dipengerusikan oleh Yang Mulia Marita I. Yoro, Penolong Setiausaha bagi Hal Ehwal Antarabangsa, Jabatan Pertahanan Nasional, Republik Filipina. Mewakili Kementerian Pertahanan Negara Brunei Darussalam ialah Yang Mulia Hajah Siti Maszaiwati binti Haji Zaini, Pengarah Dasar Pertahanan selaku Ketua Kumpulan Kerja ADSOM and ADSOM-Plus Negara Brunei Darussalam.
Semasa mesyuarat Kumpulan Kerja ADSOM, antara agenda yang dibincangkan termasuk perkembangan inisiatif-inisiatif kerjasama pertahanan ASEAN termasuk
ASEAN Direct Communications Infrastructure. Mesyuarat itu turut membincangkan cadangan inisiatif-inisiatif ADMM baru dan draf Deklarasi Bersama serta Kenyataan Bersama ADMM dan draf Kenyataan Bersama ADMM-Plus.
Semasa mesyuarat Kumpulan Kerja ADSOM-Plus, perbincangan meliputi perkembangan tujuh bidang kerjasama ADMM-Plus
Experts' Working Groups (EWGs) khususnya
Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR); Maritime Security (MS); Counter-Terrorism (CT); Peacekeeping Operations (PKO); Military Medicine (MM); Humanitarian Mine Action (HMA); dan Cyber Security (CS). Delegasi Negara Brunei Darussalam telah mengongsikan perkembangan terkini mengenai aktiviti
EWG on PKO memandangkan Negara Brunei Darussalam dan Republik Rakyat China merupakan pengerusi bersama
EWG on PKO bagi kitaran 2024-2027.
Kedua-dua mesyuarat tersebut merupakan yang pertama dalam siri penglibatan pertahanan yang akan diadakan di bawah pengerusian ASEAN 2026 di bawah Republik Filipina termasuk
Retreat Mesyuarat Menteri-Menteri Pertahanan ASEAN (ADMM) pada bulan Mei 2026 dan ADMM ke-20 serta ADMM-Plus ke-13 pada Oktober 2026.
Di samping mesyuarat-mesyuarat itu, delegasi Negara Brunei Darussalam juga telah mengadakan beberapa perjumpaan dua hala termasuk bersama Republik Filipina, Republik Singapura, Thailand dan Australia.
