Brigadier General Dato Seri Pahlawan Saifulrizal bin Abdul Latif joined the Royal Brunei Armed Forces (RBAF) in 24 November 1995 and commissioned as Second Lieutenant on 24 June 1996 after graduating from the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst (RMAS) in the United Kingdom.

Throughout his service, he has held various staff and command appointments. Upon returning to Brunei Darussalam, he served as platoon commander, Third Battalion Royal Brunei Land Force (RBLF) before he joined the Special Force (SF) selection in 1998. On successfully completing SF Selection, he became a Troop Leader in Diving Troop Special Combat Squadron (SCS) from 1998 to 2002.  He subsequently became the Training Officer of SCS from 2002 to 2004 and later was appointed as the Second-in-Command of SCS in 2005. He was posted back to RBLF in 2006 as the Officer Commanding of infantry company, Third Battalion RBLF. Upon returning to the SF, he was appointed as the Operations Officer from 2009 to 2013 and later as the Commanding Officer of Special Forces Regiment from 2013 to 2016.  In 2016, he served as Aide-de-Camp to His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam until 2019. His most recent appointment was as the Chief of Staff of the Joint Force Headquarters, RBAF from 2019 to 2022 and as the Deputy Joint Force Commander from January 2022 until June 2022.  He was then appointed as the Commander of the Royal Brunei Land Force on 10 June 2022.

By the consent of His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, he was promoted to Brigadier General on 17 June 2022.  

Throughout his career, he had the opportunity to attend various courses and seminars within Brunei Darussalam and abroad. Among the courses that he attended was the Malaysia Armed Forces Defence College from 2019 to 2020, RBAF Executive Development Programme (EDP) in 2015, RBAF Command & Staff Course in 2011, Grade 2 Command & Tactics Course (Australia) in 2009, Singapore Armed Forces Advanced Infantry Officer Course (Singapore) in 2008, the Republic of Korea Counter-Terrorist Course (707th Special Mission Battalion) in 2004 and various other special operations courses.

In recognition of his service, Brigadier General  Dato Seri Pahlawan Saifulrizal was awarded The Most Honourable Order of Seri Paduka Mahkota Brunei Class (SMB) in 2017. 

On 15 July 2022, Brigadier General Dato Seri Pahlawan Awang Saifulrizal was conferred The Most Gallant Order of Pahlawan Negara Brunei, First Class (P.S.P.N.B.) which carries the title ‘Dato Seri Pahlawan’.

He is married to  Datin Ampuan Yura Kasumawati binti Dato Paduka Haji Adnan and is blessed with two sons and one daughter.
