INTRODUCTORY CALL BY HIGH COMMISSIONER OF SINGAPORE

BOLKIAH GARRISON, Thursday 14 April 2016 - First Admiral (Rtd) Dato Seri Pahlawan Abdul Aziz bin Haji Mohd. Tamit, Deputy Minister of Defence received an introductory call from His Excellency Mr. Lim Hong Huai, High Commissioner of the Republic of Singapore, this afternoon at Bolkiah Garrison.

During the call, the Deputy Minister of Defence and the High Commissioner expressed satisfaction on the long-standing good relations between Brunei Darussalam and Singapore, especially in the areas of defence. The active bilateral defence relation is enhanced by regular exchange of visits, trainings and courses, joint military exercises and interaction programmes.

Both sides took note of the 5th Defence Policy Dialogue, one of many areas of defence cooperation, held in Brunei Darussalam earlier this year. Furthermore, Brunei Darussalam and Singapore will be celebrating the 40th anniversary of the establishment of bilateral defence relations this year.

Deputy Minister of Defence and the High Commissioner also looked forward to the upcoming ASEAN Defence Ministers’ Meeting-Plus Experts’ Working Group Maritime Security and Counter Terrorism Exercise which will take place in Brunei Darussalam and Singapore, from 2 – 12 May 2016.

At the end of the courtesy call, Deputy Minister of Defence presented the High Commissioner with a plaque to commemorate the introductory call and expressed gratitude for the opportunity to meet.
