17TH JOINT DEFENCE WORKING COMMITTEE MEETING BETWEEN BRUNEI DARUSSALAM AND UNITED STATES


BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, Thursday, 05 December 2024 – The Ministry of Defence, Brunei Darussalam and the US Indo-Pacific Command (INDOPACOM), United States (US) conducted the 17th Joint Defence Working Committee (JDWC) meeting in one of the hotels in the capital this morning. 

 

The meeting was co-chaired by Yang Mulia Brigadier General (Retired) Dato Seri Pahlawan Haji Alirupendi bin Haji Perudin, Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Defence of Brunei Darussalam, and Brigadier General Sarah Russ, Mobilisation Assistant to the J5, Director of Strategic Planning and Policy, US INDOPACOM. Defence and military officials from both countries were also in attendance.

 

During the meeting, both co-chairs praised the active bilateral and multilateral interactions between the Royal Brunei Armed Forces (RBAF) and the US INDOPACOM. The JDWC meeting met to discuss, amongst other matters, bilateral defence cooperation including military training and exercises, professional exchanges and capability development, as well as exchanging views on issues of mutual interest.

 

As part of the 17th JDWC programme, the US delegation will pay a courtesy call to Brigadier General (U) Dato Seri Pahlawan Mohd Sharif bin Dato Paduka Haji Ibrahim, Commander of the Royal Brunei Air Force at Rimba Air Base and also a courtesy call to Captain Khairil Haji Abdul Rahman, Acting Commander of the Royal Brunei Navy at Muara Naval Base the next day. 

 

The JDWC between Brunei Darussalam and the United States of America was established through the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Defence Cooperation between the Government of His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam and the Government of the United States of America signed on 29 November 1994 in Bandar Seri Begawan, Brunei Darussalam. The MoU serves as a framework to promote defence cooperation and enhancing strong bilateral defence links between Brunei Darussalam and the United States of America.

MESYUARAT KE-17 JAWATANKUASA KERJA PERTAHANAN BERSAMA DI ANTARA NEGARA BRUNEI DARUSSALAM DAN AMERIKA SYARIKAT

 

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, Khamis, 05 Disember 2024 – Kementerian Pertahanan, Negara Brunei Darussalam dan Markas Pemerintahan Indo-Pasifik Amerika Syarikat (US INDOPACOM), Amerika Syarikat telah mengadakan mesyuarat Jawatankuasa Kerja Pertahanan Bersama (JKPB) ke-17 di salah sebuah hotel di ibu negara pagi tadi.

 

Mesyuarat dipengerusikan bersama oleh Yang Mulia Brigedier Jeneral (Bersara) Dato Seri Pahlawan Haji Alirupendi bin Haji Perudin, Setiausaha Tetap Kementerian Pertahanan Negara Brunei Darussalam dan Brigedier Jeneral Sarah Russ, Mobilisation Assistant to the J5, Director of Strategic Planning and Policy, US INDOPACOM. Mesyuarat berkenaan turut dihadiri oleh pegawai-pegawai pertahanan dan tentera dari kedua-dua buah negara. 

Semasa mesyuarat tersebut, kedua-dua pengerusi bersama merakamkan rasa gembira dengan interaksi dua hala dan pelbagai hala yang aktif di antara Angkatan Bersenjata Diraja Brunei (ABDB) dan US INDOPACOM. Mesyuarat JKPB ini antara lain bertujuan untuk membincangkan kerjasama pertahanan dua hala, termasuk latihan dan eksesais ketenteraan, pertukaran profesional dan pembangunan keupayaan, serta bertukar-tukar pandangan mengenai isu-isu berkepentingan bersama.

Sebagai sebahagian daripada program JKPB ke-17, delegasi Amerika Syarikat akan mengadakan kunjungan hormat kepada Brigedier Jeneral (U) Dato Seri Pahlawan Mohd Sharif bin Dato Paduka Haji Ibrahim, Pemerintah Tentera Udara Diraja Brunei di Pangkalan Udara Rimba dan juga kunjungan hormat kepada Kapten Khairil bin Haji Abdul Rahman, TLDB, Pemangku Pemerintah Tentera Laut Diraja Brunei di Pangkalan Tentera Laut Muara pada hari berikutnya.

 

JKPB di antara Negara Brunei Darussalam dan Amerika Syarikat telah ditubuhkan melalui Memorandum Persefahaman (MoU) mengenai Kerjasama Pertahanan di antara Kerajaan Kebawah Duli Yang Maha Mulia Paduka Seri Baginda Sultan dan Yang Di-Pertuan Negara Brunei Darussalam dan Kerajaan Amerika Syarikat yang ditandatangani pada 29 November 1994 di Bandar Seri Begawan, Negara Brunei Darussalam. MoU tersebut merupakan rangka kerja untuk menggalakkan kerjasama dan meningkatkan hubungan pertahanan dua hala yang kukuh di antara Negara Brunei Darussalam dan Amerika Syarikat. ​
