REPUBLIC OF SINGAPORE, Friday, 30 May 2025 – Yang Berhormat Pehin Datu Lailaraja Major General (Retired) Dato Paduka Seri Awang Haji Halbi bin Haji Mohd Yussof, Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office and Minister of Defence II, led a delegation from the Ministry of Defence to the Southeast Asia – United States Defence Ministers’ Informal Meeting, which was held today on the sidelines of the 22nd Institute for Strategic Studies’ (IISS) Shangri-La Dialogue in the Republic of Singapore. Also in the delegation was Her Excellency Hajah Noor Qamar binti Haji Sulaiman, High Commissioner of Brunei Darussalam to the Republic of Singapore.
The informal meeting brought together Defence Ministers and representatives of the Southeast Asian countries, including Democratic Republic of Timor Leste, and the United States, and was chaired by The Honourable Pete Hegseth, the US Defense Secretary, to discuss regional security challenges including ways to bolster ASEAN’s capacity and enhance engagement and cooperation between the United States and regional countries. During the meeting, Yang Berhormat Pehin reaffirmed Brunei Darussalam’s commitment to continue engaging and strengthening cooperation with the United States, including through the ASEAN Defence Ministers Meeting-Plus (ADMM-Plus), to ensure peace and stability in the region.

Shanmugam, Coordinating Minister for National Security and Minister for Home Affairs of the Republic of Singapore, and His Excellency Chan Chun Sing, Coordinating Minister for Public Services and Minister for Defence of the Republic of Singapore, that underscore the strong and exceptionally positive state of bilateral relations between Brunei Darussalam and the Republic of Singapore.

REPUBLIK SINGAPURA, Jumaat, 30 Mei 2025 –
Yang Berhormat Pehin Datu Lailaraja Mejar Jeneral (Bersara) Dato Paduka Seri Haji Awang Halbi bin Haji Mohd Yussof, Menteri di Jabatan Perdana Menteri dan Menteri Pertahanan II telah mengetuai delegasi dari Kementerian Pertahanan ke Mesyuarat Tidak Rasmi Menteri-Menteri Pertahanan Asia Tenggara–Amerika Syarikat, iaitu mesyuarat sampingan Dialog Shangri-La ke-22 anjuran
Institute for Strategic Studies’ (IISS) yang diadakan di Republik Singapura pada hari ini. Turut menyertai delegasi ialah Puan Yang Terutama Hajah Noor Qamar binti Haji Sulaiman, Pesuruhjaya Tinggi Negara Brunei Darussalam ke Republik Singapura.
Mesyuarat tidak rasmi tersebut menghimpunkan Menteri-Menteri Pertahanan dan wakil negara-negara Asia Tenggara termasuk Timor Leste dan Amerika Syarikat, dan dipengerusikan oleh Yang Berhormat Pete Hegseth, Setiausaha Pertahanan Amerika Syarikat, bagi membincangkan cabaran keselamatan serantau termasuk cara untuk memperkukuh keupayaan ASEAN dan meningkatkan penglibatan serta kerjasama antara Amerika Syarikat dan negara-negara serantau. Semasa mesyuarat ini, Yang Berhormat Pehin menegaskan komitmen Negara Brunei Darussalam untuk terus melibatkan diri dan mengukuhkan kerjasama dengan Amerika Syarikat, termasuk melalui Mesyuarat Menteri-Menteri Pertahanan ASEAN-Plus (ADMM-Plus), demi memastikan keamanan dan kestabilan rantau ini.
Yang Berhormat Menteri di Jabatan Perdana Menteri dan Menteri Pertahanan II juga telah berpeluang mengadakan perjumpaan dua hala berasingan dengan Tuan Yang Terutama K. Shanmugam, Menteri Koordinasi Bagi Sekuriti Kebangsaan dan Menteri Ehwal Dalam Negeri Republik Singapura, dan Tuan Yang Terutama Chan Chun Sing, Menteri Koordinasi Bagi Perkhidmatan Awam dan Menteri Pertahanan Republik Singapura yang menggariskan tahap hubungan dua hala yang sangat kukuh dan istimewa antara Negara Brunei Darussalam dan Republik Singapura.
