17TH JOINT DEFENCE COMMISSION (JDC) MEETING BETWEEN BRUNEI DARUSSALAM AND THE UNITED KINGDOM


BOLKIAH GARRISON, Tuesday, 8 October 2024 –The 17th Joint Defence Commission (JDC) meeting was convened between the Ministry of Defence Brunei Darussalam and the Ministry of Defence United Kingdom today. 


The meeting was co-chaired by Yang Mulia Brigadier General (Retired) Dato Seri Pahlawan Haji Alirupendi bin Haji Perudin, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Defence Brunei Darussalam, and Mr. Nick Gurr, Director International Security, Ministry of Defence United Kingdom. Defence and military officials from both countries were also in attendance. 


The meeting began with opening remarks from both co-chairs, reaffirming the close and special bond of friendship and bilateral relations between both sides in all areas of cooperation. During the meeting, a comprehensive defence overview was presented, followed by discussions on the status of bilateral agreements including service to service engagements. 

 

The defence bilateral relationship between Brunei Darussalam and the United Kingdom has steadily strengthened especially with the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1984 and the signing of Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on the establishment of a Joint Commission on Defence Cooperation in 2002.  

 

  






MESYUARAT BERSAMA SURUHANJAYA PERTAHANAN KALI KE-17 DI ANTARA NEGARA BRUNEI DARUSSALAM DAN UNITED KINGDOM

 

BOLKIAH GARISON, Selasa, 8 Oktober 2024 – Mesyuarat Bersama Suruhanjaya Pertahanan Kali Ke-17 telah diadakan di antara Kementerian Pertahanan Negara Brunei Darussalam dan Kementerian Pertahanan United Kingdom hari ini. 

 

Mesyuarat tersebut dipengerusikan bersama oleh Yang Mulia Brigedier Jeneral (Bersara) Dato Seri Pahlawan Haji Alirupendi bin Haji Perudin, Setiausaha Tetap Kementerian Pertahanan Brunei Darussalam, dan Tuan Nick Gurr, Director International Security, Kementerian Pertahanan United Kingdom. Mesyuarat berkenaan turut dihadiri oleh Pegawai-pegawai pertahanan dan Angkatan Tentera dari kedua-dua buah negara.

 

Mesyuarat berkenaan dirasmikan dengan ucaptama daripada kedua-dua pengerusi yang mengesahkan semula ikatan persahabatan dan hubungan dua hala yang rapat dan istimewa antara kedua-dua pihak dalam semua bidang kerjasama. Semasa mesyuarat, rumusan pertahanan yang komprehensif telah dibentangkan, diikuti dengan perbincangan mengenai status perjanjian dua hala termasuk hubungan antara perkhidmatan tentera termasuk service to service engagements.

 

Hubungan pertahanan dua hala antara Negara Brunei Darussalam dan United Kingdom telah meningkat dan semakin kukuh terutamanya dengan penubuhan hubungan diplomatik pada tahun 1984 dan penandatanganan Memorandum Persefahaman (MoU) mengenai penubuhan Suruhanjaya Bersama dalam Kerjasama Pertahanan (Joint Commission on Defence Cooperation) pada tahun 2002.​
